Love Your Mission. Love Your Community.

Hands held in an open fashion, palms up, holding a community heart lit from behind.

With Valentine’s Day around the corner, I’ve been thinking about love, not just the kind we celebrate with flowers and cards, but the kind that fuels your mission every single day.

You started your organization because you care deeply. You saw a need. You felt called to respond. That kind of love: love for community, for justice, for healing, for hope, is powerful.

But here’s what I know after more than 30 years in nonprofit leadership and fundraising:

❤️Even the strongest mission needs connection.

❤️Love grows in community. And so does impact.

Research consistently shows that collaboration strengthens sustainability and results. According to the Stanford Social Innovation Review, collaborative initiatives are significantly more likely to achieve systems-level impact than organizations working independently. The Bridgespan Group has also found that nonprofits engaged in strong partnerships are more likely to experience funding growth compared to those working alone.

Funders are paying attention.

Many grant makers now prioritize partnerships and community coalitions in their funding decisions.

Collaboration signals strong leadership, strategic vision, and a commitment to collective impact.

And collaboration doesn’t only mean nonprofit-to-nonprofit partnerships.

Strong alliances can also form between nonprofit and for-profit organizations. When structured thoughtfully, these partnerships create mutual benefits: nonprofits gain access to new funding streams, expertise, volunteers, and visibility, while businesses strengthen their community presence, fulfill corporate social responsibility goals, and engage employees in meaningful impact work. Done well, these relationships expand reach and deepen sustainability for both parties.

And honestly? That kind of partnership also signals heart.

When organizations choose to work together instead of competing…

When leaders share ideas instead of guarding them…

When missions align for the good of the community…

That’s when transformation happens.

Together, we conquer more.

Togetherness builds resilience.

Many missions, across sectors, aligned in purpose create lasting community impact.

So this Valentine’s season, I encourage you to:

❤️ Love your mission boldly

❤️ Lean into collaboration

❤️ Build meaningful community partnerships

❤️ Share your story with confidence

Because when heart and strategy come together, your mission doesn’t just survive, it thrives.

If you’re ready to strengthen your mission through strategic grant funding, executive consulting, or board development, I would love to partner with you.

With gratitude and so much respect for the work you do,

Kim
